Price: 1000LE (€30) Duration: A session will last in the region of 70-90 minutes. First session will be longer to allow for a thorough and detailed consultation. Treatments: I use a combination of the treatment modalities listed below, depending on the needs of the patient and the required outcome. Specific treatment requests can of course be accommodated (e.g; massage).
Overview of Treatments
Through experience I have found the best way to rehabilitate from a physical injury is by incorporating a range of complimentary treatments and therapies for the client, including:
Massage (sports / deep tissue / remedial / relaxation)
Personal Training (strengthening / mobility / stretching / ROM exercises)
Injury Rehabilitation Exercise
TENS & EMS Treatments
Exercise Prescription (utilising Rehab Guru Software)
Combining soft tissue therapy (massage) and exercise rehabilitation following an injury is a fantastic way to get back to fitness quickly and to prevent further injuries from happening.
TREATMENT: Soft Tissue Therapy & Sports Massage
Soft Tissue Therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is applicable not just to sports people but to anybody wishing to guard against or recover from a soft tissue injury. The techniques used by soft tissue therapists have been developed to ensure effective and efficient results are gained from each massage given.
Soft Tissue Therapy may:
Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
Assist in the removal of metabolic waste
Sedate or stimulate nerve endings
Increase or decrease muscle tone
Increase or decrease muscle length
Remodel scar tissue when required
Assist in mental preparation for sporting participation
You do not need to be a sports performer to benefit from Soft Tissue Therapy. The benefits above can also help relieve the many day to day problems, repetitive strain injury, sprains, tension, fatigue, that everyone experiences. More information about Soft Tissue Therapy HERE
TREATMENT: Myofascial Cupping (Rock Pods)
Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine using a special cup directly on the skin for a short period of time to create suction. An old Chinese medical maxim says “Where there is stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain”. By removing the stagnation, cupping then encourages the body to heal and regenerate. In my clinical practice, I use Rockpods, which are medical grade silicone cups designed to create myofascial decompression. Using negative pressure (the suction), the cup targets a specific area to create a lift or space (fascial decompression) and introduces neurosensory stimulation to the tissue.
It can be used for many reported purposes, including:
Increase range of movement
Change body awareness
Improve motor control
Address trigger points
There are a range of techniques that can be used with the cups. I may place them on an area for a few moments, hold the pods to create a deeper decompression, glide the pods with suction over the target area or get you to move in a specific way whilst the cups are in place. I do not use more than 2-4 pods at any given time. More does not equal better. Like all of the techniques I use, less is more. It will depend on the problem you present with and the goal you are trying to achieve.
TREATMENT: Personal Training & Injury Rehabilitation
One-to-one and fully customised personal training focussed on specific injury rehabilitation. The primary goals are to help you recover faster, prevent re-injury and develop resilience. Rehabilitation exercise aims to bring back full function following injury through restoring muscle strength, endurance, power, and improving flexibility. A therapist can achieve these results by carefully selecting and planning various exercises and drills for each client. Rehabilitation is as important as treatment following any injury but is often forgotten. It is really important to understand that injuries will improve and heal more successfully if an exercise plan is followed. However, every person responds differently and healing times will vary.
The main thing to remember is that prevention is better than cure and a good, well thought out rehabilitation plan will help keep injuries at bay. Combining sports massage and exercise rehabilitation following an injury is a fantastic way to get back to fitness quickly and to prevent further injuries from happening, therefore for optimal recovery consider combining the two treatments.
Benefits of exercise rehabilitation include;
restoring muscle strength, endurance and power
enhanced proprioception (an essential part of our bodies' ability to move) and improved balance
creating resilience and reducing chances of re-injury
TREATMENT: TENS & EMS (E-Stim)
What is e-stim? E-stim uses electrical pulses to mimic the action of signals coming from neurons (cells in your nervous system). These mild electrical currents target either muscles or nerves. E-stim therapy for muscle recovery sends signals to targeted muscles to make them contract. (Flexing your biceps is a form of muscle contraction.) By causing repeated muscle contractions, blood flow improves, helping repair injured muscles.
Those muscles also improve their strength through repeated cycles of contraction and relaxation. E-stim can also “train” muscles to respond to the body’s natural signals to contract. The type of e-stim that focuses on pain relief sends signals on a different wavelength so they reach the nerves, rather than the muscles. Electrical stimulation can block pain receptors from being sent from nerves to the brain.
What are the main types of e-stim? The two main types of e-stim are transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and electrical muscle stimulation (EMS): More information about TENS and EMS HERE
